Diagnosis and Treatment of Retinal Dystrophies
Inherited retinal dystrophies are one of the leading causes of visual impairment and blindness in the working age population. With a better understanding of the variability in presentation and multitude of testing methods available in optometric practice, diagnosing and providing suitable advice is a major challenge. The lecture will briefly review the classification of retinal dystrophies and how to interpret test results when evaluating patients with retinal disease. Multiple cases seen at the Centre for Eye Health will illustrate cone-rod and rod-cone dystrophies and outline suitable advice to give to your patients after diagnosis has been made. A synopsis will also be provided on the latest clinical trials on inherited retinal dystrophies intervention measures including oral, topical medications, gene therapy and the bionic eye.
